05 Sep 20 - Museum Re-Opened

Marlow Town Mayor Cllr Richard Scott re-opened the Marlow Museum on Saturday 5 September 2020 after nearly 6 months of its closure due to Corona virus. This means the Stewards are ready to welcome visitors to attend FOR FREE.

During July and August, Museum volunteers have

  • undertaken a Covid-19 Risk Assessment, following government guidelines;
  • deep cleaned the museum - you might smell Dettol when you visit!
  • set up new procedures for operating safely in the current circumstances, including asking volunteers and visitors to wear masks and use hand sanitiser, a one-way system and social distancing, with no more than 4 visitors in the museum at once, and track and trace recording.
  • introduced contactless card payments for sales and donations;
  • recruited and trained many new volunteer stewards;
  • been awarded the Visit England ‘We’re Good to Go’ badge for tourist sites.

Marlow Football Club 150 years

 Marlow Football Club is one of the oldest in Britain being founded in 1870, following a meeting held at The Compleat Angler Hotel, and has the distinction of being one of the original 15 entrants and contributors to the first F.A. Cup Competition the following year.

More information about the early history of Marlow Football Club can be found here

Early Independent Bus Companies

For when we are able to reopen the museum:

 The museum has been fortunate to receive a publication entitled ’Early Independents of the Henley and Marlow Areas’ by Paul Lacey. You may have read some of Paul’s earlier books on bus companies but this one is a must if you are a bus enthusiast or interested in local transport and travel.
